Cute 'n Cool in 1989

My mom brought a stack of photos with her and these two were some of my favorites. Jamie with his drum stick and me with my stiff bangs and Mexican spiral perm--not to mention sweet jacket. What a cute couple we would have made even in '89.

Sunday we took my mom and the baby babes to Great Falls for a festive autumnal outing. The colors are really starting to change and captured against the backdrop of the rugged Potomac river they look especially stunning.

The Quilts of Edward's Bend

My mom and her sister, my Aunt Gaye, are turbo quilters. One of the benefits of having children is being the recipient of gorgeous quilts from my mom and aunt. I had heard from my sister that the quilts my mom had made were absolutely stunning so I was eagerly awaiting their debut. When my mom arrived last night and she happily gave them to us Jamie and I were stunned! Never had we seen anything so exquisite. Using the nursery colors of lime green and blue my mom created wonderfully intricate and aesthetically pleasing pieces of art.

Soren and Asher thank you mom!!!

Aunt Gaye's quilts were also enormously beautiful. She chose a small box pattern and used vintage replica fabrics also in greens and blues. So stinking cute! I love all the polka dots and little critter patterns. Soren and Asher are super lucky to own quilts made with so much love and joy.

Soren and Asher Meet Old Town!

Standing in front of a replica of George Washington's townhome and looking SERIOUSLY lopsided. What's a lactating mother to do?

To honor Jamie's last day of paternity leave, we took the boys on a walk through Old Town. The weather was blissful: cool, bright, and slightly scented with fall. The dashing homes of Old Town were festively decorated with gourds, mums, and lovely wreaths. I love this time of year SO much and to share it with Jamie and the boys makes me adore it even more.

We packed bottles with us so we could feed the boys while on our excursion. We took them to Founders Way park along the Potomac so basically Asher and Soren enjoyed their first picnic by the water. The boys loved Old Town so much they slept the entire time.

Asher: A Portrait of the Cutes as a Baby Babe

Asher is also a sweet baby and his tiny size makes him very endearing. He even smiled at me yeserday! Jamie says it didn't count because I stroked his cheek but that only means he LIKES his cheek stroked by his mom.

Soren: A Portrait of the Cutes as a Baby Babe

Soren is such a sweet baby. He is extremely patient and I would even say pretty chill. He is a neat, measured eater and LOVES to be kissed by Jamie. In his sleep he makes funny grunting noises that I would liken to an angry leprechaun.

Nicole Visits

Nicole and Asher.

Nicole stopped by the other night to see the boys. She saw them in the hospital a few days after they were born when they were covered with tubes and wires so it was wonderful to show her our babies in their own room free from fussy wires. Nicole looked beautiful holding the babies!

Jamie as DAD

Watching Jamie with Asher and Soren has been really beautiful. As I predicted, this fathering gig has seemed quite effortless for him. He changed his first diaper EVER in the NICU, which was a huge accomplishment considering it was in an isolette with a nurse hovering over him.

To allow me precious sleep, Jamie took over the night feedings during his time off from work. He fed Soren and Asher during the midnight, 3am, and often 6am feedings. What a blessing! Even though I had to get up to pump every three hours--knowing I could go right back to sleep was a HUGE luxury. I fondly associate the sound of Jamie burping a chirpy baby with those late night pumping sessions.

As a result of having all night long with the baby babes, Jamie is confident in the way he engages Asher and Soren. He changes diapers like he has been doing it for years and he can get a onesie on a fidgety baby in record time. I think it was good for him to have ownership over that time so that he could handle the babies on his own without me telling him what to 'do.' Now HE gives me tips on how to best burp Asher or the best feeding position for Soren.

Fathers just do things differently...I'm sooo happy that Asher and Soren have Jamie as a father. He sings them silly songs and hugs and kissses them with great vigor. He is basically the baby whisperer because during those times when both boys get worked up and their chirping transitions into yelps of distress, Jamie will walk into their room and all he has to do is start talking and they immediately quiet, completely comforted by his voice.

I love those boys!
